11.4 Leidos Web Service Release Notes

The 11.4 Software Release is scheduled to be deployed on November 19, 2024. at around 0200Z, there will be a 10 - 15 minute down-time for web services during the deployment. Please review the lab Leidos Web Service API (WSDL) for more detailed information regarding these updates and enhancements. The Software Release will include the following:

  • GFA and G-AIRMET products:

    • Route and Area Briefings: In briefings, textual area forecast products are now replaced with enhanced Graphical Forecast Area (GFA) products for CONUS, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.  In addition, Textual AIRMETs in the CONUS region are replaced with Graphical AIRMETs forecasts.

      • NGBv2 Briefings: Graphical images for G-AIRMETs and GFA weather products replace textual AIRMETs and area forecast weather products.

      • NGB and Simple Briefings: Summary text and links to the Flight Service Interactive Map are provided for the graphical images of G-AIRMETs and GFA weather products.

      • GFA Product Codes Added:

        • GFA_CLOUD_COVER - GFA Cloud Cover

        • GFA_CLOUD_TOP - GFA Cloud Top

        • GFA_CLOUD_BASE - GFA Cloud Base

        • GFA_FLIGHT_CATEGORY - GFA Flight Category

        • GFA_VISIBILITY - GFA Visibility

        • GFA_PRECIPITATION - GFA Precipitation

        • GFA_THUNDER_COVERAGE - GFA Thunder Coverage

        • GFA_WINDS - GFA Winds

        • GFA_FREEZING_LEVEL - GFA Freezing Level

        • GFA_CEILING_LEVEL - GFA Ceiling Level

        • GFA_SURFACE_WINDS_LEVEL - GFA Surface Winds Level

      • Product Codes Removed:

        • CC - Graphical Area Forecast Cloud Coverage

        • VIS - Graphical Area Forecast Vis, Sfc. Winds, and Precip

    • Evaluate Departure Time: G-AIRMET products are added to the Evaluate Departure Time details. The existing "AIRMET" rows are renamed G-AIRMET/AIRMET. The details in the rows are based on G-AIRMETs (CONUS) and AIRMETs (Alaska/Hawaii/Caribbean). This applies to the following web services:

      • EvaluateDepartureTimeRequest - This endpoint brings the Web Site Evaluate Departure Time flight planning capability to web services. The EvaluateDepartureTime provides a summarization of the forecasted TAF and adverse conditions that a flight will encounter over a range of departure times. The response now includes G-AIRMETS.

      • RouteBriefingRequest (NGBV2) – If the “includeEvaluateDepartureTimeDetails” parameter is set to true, the response will contain the Evaluate Departure Time graphic which now includes G-AIRMETs.

    • G-AIRMET products will be added to the following Web Services:

      • RetrieveAlertByFlightIdResponse

      • RetrieveAlertByRouteResponse

      • WebServicePushNGBAlertResponse

    • GFA and G-AIRMET products are added to the Interactive Map at http://1800wxbrief.com :

      • To view GFA products, select “Map” from the main menu, click the Layers icon, and then select products in the section titled "Graphical Forecasts for Aviation."

      • To view G-AIRMETs, select “Map” from the main menu, click the Layers icon, and then select the "AIRMET" section which expands to show the G-AIRMET options.

  • EMAIL briefings:

    • When the “briefingType=EMAIL” parameter is used with the areaBriefing and routeBriefing web services, the email now includes an NGBv2 PDF briefing attached to the email instead of the briefing text embedded in the email.
